🍂 Saturday in Indiana: Take the Long Way Home
Saturday, October 3, 2026
There is something different about an Indiana Saturday in October.
The workweek is behind us. The leaves are beginning to turn, the mornings have a little more chill in the air, and communities across the state are getting ready for another weekend of fall activities.
And you don't necessarily have to travel far to enjoy it.
Sometimes, the best Saturday adventure is simply taking the long way home.
🍁 Fall Is Calling
This is the time of year when an ordinary drive through Indiana can turn into a little adventure.
A familiar road looks different when the trees begin changing colors. A small town you've driven through dozens of times suddenly catches your attention. You notice an old storefront, a historic church, a farm stand, an antique shop or a restaurant you've never tried.
Indiana has plenty of those places.
From the rolling hills of southern Indiana to the small communities scattered throughout central and northern Indiana, fall gives us a good reason to slow down and look around.
🌉 Don't Forget the Covered Bridges
For many Hoosiers, fall also means covered bridges.
Indiana's historic covered bridges have become destinations in their own right. Some are tucked away along quiet country roads, while others sit near communities where festivals and local events bring people together.
A covered bridge isn't just an old structure.
It's part of the story of Indiana.
Think about the people who crossed those bridges generations ago — farmers, families, travelers and neighbors going about their daily lives. Today, we stop to photograph them, explore the surrounding countryside and remember a little piece of Indiana history.
That's the kind of story BlogBitz wants to share.
🎃 Small Towns, Big Weekends
October is also a great month for community events.
Fall festivals, craft shows, farmers markets, pumpkin displays, local food, antique shops and seasonal activities give people a reason to get out and explore.
And when you visit a small town, remember that your purchase at the local café, gift shop, restaurant or market can make a difference.
Shopping local isn't just about buying something. It's about supporting the people who live in the community.
Every small business has a story.
So does every town.
🚗 Take the Long Way
Maybe you don't have a destination today.
That's okay.
Pick a direction and take a road you've never traveled.
Stop when you see something interesting.
Take a picture.
Visit a local business.
Talk to somebody.
Find an old building.
Look for a historic marker.
Have lunch somewhere you've never tried.
You might discover that you don't have to leave Indiana to have an adventure.
Sometimes you just have to slow down enough to notice what's already there.
📸 Photo of the Week
Indiana in the fall is hard to beat.
Covered bridges, colorful trees, country roads and small communities are reminders that some of the best scenery isn't found on a major highway.
It's found on the back roads.
